Window Energy Ratings

Computer simulation of a window

Many companies have seen the benefits that result from having Window Energy Ratings (WER) on their windows.  The edge WER give them in marketing their products over competitors without WER has proven to be tangible and significant. Often, specifiers will not even consider windows without WER; so companies without this feature don’t even make it onto the tender list, and don’t even know what opportunities they have missed.

And of course from 1st October 2010, an energy rating in the ‘C’ band became an accepted method of compliance with Approved Document L of the Building Regulations: 2010.

Door Energy Ratings

The BFRC launched it energy ratings for doors in September 2011. Stuart Young is one of the first simulators qualified to carry out the thermal simulations you will need in order to obtain your door energy ratings.

It is thought that the 2013 Part L regulations will require doors to have energy ratings similar to windows in the current regulations, but many door manufacturers, already aware of the marketing advantage gained through having window energy ratings, are already adding this benefit to their door range.

Don’t be caught out as many companies were when window energy ratings first came in, call today or fill in the form for further details.

U-Values

Another method of compliance with Approved Document L is being able to prove the U-values on your doors and windows.  The preferred method of obtaining the U-values, according to BR 443:2006, is the numeric method of calculation using software that conforms with BS EN ISO 10077-2.

The Stuart Young Consultancy is a BFRC Certified Simulator (referred to in BR 443:2006).  As such we are qualified to provide the thermal simulations required in order to obtain WER and calculate U-values using software that complies with BS EN ISO 10077-2, thereby proving compliance with BR 443:2006 on any design or size of your windows and doors.
